Rangers manager Michael Beale wants a new goalkeeper, central defender, midfielder and striker by the summer to fulfil his vision for the squad.

The Englishman has already added creative midfielder Todd Cantwell in this window and the new boy enjoyed a very productive debut against St Johnstone, playing a big part in his team's decisive second goal in a 2-0 win.

While Beale is keen to get new players in the door, he's only willing to secure deals that are right for the club. That's why the 40-year-old is relaxed about when Rangers get deals over the line. And he insists that everyone at the club is pulling in the same direction to improve the existing squad.

He said: "I would like us to add a midfielder to the squad that's powerful and can run. I would like to have another centre-half and we will be looking at the goalkeeper situation in the summer. We will be looking for another number nine.

"Are we going to get all that done in the next 48 hours? There's more time in the summer. It's got to be the right players but nobody wants to strengthen this squad more than Ross, the board and myself. It's in our interest to build a stronger Rangers than we have right now."

But that's not to say those at Ibrox are standing still. Beale insists there is significant activity behind the scenes on the recruitment front.

"There's loads of stuff going on in the background," he admitted. "There are one or two names in the media and you have all run away with those a little bit because you are getting snippets from the other club. There's a lot of that that's not right. There's more wrong in that speculation than there is right.

"There's one or two others we are talking two and if we get them done I will be delighted. If we don't I will just keep working. We are all aligned. I'm up to speed with everything. Everyone thinks the board and I and Ross Wilson don't talk. We are all in together every minute of every day. We are all on the same page. If we do our work now, we will do less in the summer and if we don't we will do more. It's got to be the right players."

Of course, January is never an easy time to sign players, an issue that is clearly complicating Rangers' market activity.

He said: "These are good players and the clubs they play for don't want them to go, certainly in January. I don't want to lose my better players in January. That's all the stuff that goes on. I think there will be a couple of things in the next 48 hours, can I guarantee there will be new arrivals? No. Are we going to try our best? Definitely."
