Andy Halliday insists there shouldn't have been any red cards at Ibrox over the weekend.

The Hearts midfielder doesn't think either Nicky Clark or Ryan Jack should've saw red on Saturday. 

Rangers took care of St Johnstone fairly comfortably at the weekend, winning 2-0 at Ibrox. 

Willie Collum and VAR took centre stage, though. 

The experienced ref made history on the day by becoming the first Scottish official to overrule a recommendation from VAR at the pitchside monitor.

Collum was urged to look again at an incident involving Ibrox midfielder Ryan Jack, who took out Adam Montgomery around the ankle area very late, and rashly.

He opted to stick with his initial call of brandishing a booking, despite the strong protests from the Saints camp for a red.

This came a matter of moments after the Gers ace was tackled by Nicky Clark around the centre circle. The Saints striker was dismissed for his strong challenge, but Callum Davidson has confirmed the McDiarmid Park outfit will appeal the decision.

However, Halliday reckons both tackles were only worthy of yellows, as he insisted Clark's was "never a red".

He told Clyde Superscoreboard: "In terms of Nicky Clark's - never a red card for me, never.

"I don't think the contact is what you initially see from the side angle. I think it's behind one of the goals it looks as if his stud maybe does catch his knee.

"Even then, I don't really know where his foot can go in the follow through, but when you actually see another angle it looks like it's a sort of knee on shin collision.

"I don't think Ryan Jack's is a red card. I think it's a yellow card.

"I think it's a poor mistimed challenge but I don't think there's as much, shall I say hilarity, towards the tackle if Nicky Clark doesn't get sent off 30 seconds prior for a fairly similar challenge, if not a better challenge.

"Listen, it's a poor challenge there's no doubt about it. But I mean it's a loose ball he's got every right to go in for the ball.

"I think where he catches the St Johnstone player, although it's not nice, any higher I think it's a really dangerous challenge and then you're in the red card bracket.

"But for me it's a yellow card challenge."
