Rangers are on the brink of naming Michael Beale’s successor as manager as Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat await a final decision from the Ibrox board.

The Rangers Review understands an announcement will be made within the next 48 hours after discussions continued on Saturday in an attempt to bring the search for the new boss to a close.

The Ibrox hierarchy have been on the hunt for Beale’s replacement in the dugout since he was sacked a fortnight ago as the defeat to Aberdeen – which left his side seven points adrift of Celtic in the title race – proved to be his final match in charge.

Clement, who has been out of the game since leaving Monaco, and former Ibrox defender Muscat have been at the front of the race for some time now and John Bennett and James Bisgrove held interviews with prospective candidates in London last week.

Ibrox sources have now confirmed that Rangers are poised to make an appointment to ensure the new era will get off and running with the visit of Hibernian on Saturday.

The Rangers Review revealed that former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard had been ruled out of the race after holding initial discussions with Bennett and Bisgrove. An interest in Scott Parker was also played down last week, while AZ Alkmaar manager Pascal Jansen ruled himself out of contention.

Oliver Glasner was another name that was put forward for the position and the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss broke his silence on the situation on Saturday. It is understood that the Austrian was keen on a switch to Ibrox but the man that wrecked Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Europa League dreams in Seville insists he is in no rush to return to the dugout.

Glasner said: "I have never commented on that speculation and I never will. I notice it and am amused by it. But it doesn't affect my daily routine in any way. It's nice that it all happens more or less in the background.

"I haven’t had any withdrawal symptoms from football yet. At the moment I have other things that are in the foreground. I only watch football when there's nothing else to do which is very, very rare.

"Every day, I am very relaxed. I feel like I am on holiday each day. The time will come when I return to management, I will feel it.

“It would need to be a project that excites me again. If I can make a difference and I have a good feeling about it, then I will do it.

"But for now, I am flying to San Francisco next week to watch the Golden State Warriors basketball team. I'm really looking forward to getting some impressions from another sport from another culture, from another country. Let's see what I can take back from it."
