The midfielder was substituted after falling awkwardly following a shot at goal that hit the side netting.
He was tended to on the pitch by club doctor Mark Waller and attempted to get up but was clearly advised to come off the pitch with the player looking emotional.
He was replaced in the 62nd minute by winger Scott Wright with Rangers trailing to a Lawrence Shankland header scored in the first half.
James Tavernier thought he had equalised just before half-time but saw his penalty bounce back off the post.
The Ibrox club have suffered numerous injury problems to key players this season with new manager Philipe Clement stating that a new training regime would be implemented with a focus on individual levels.
