Rangers are closing in on a loan move for Portuguese international Fabio Silva as Philippe Clement kickstarts his January recruitment drive.
The Ibrox boss has spent recent weeks assessing the squad that he has manoeuvred into Premiership title contention and guided to League Cup glory, as well as securing a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.
Clement has identified the forward line as a key area in need of investment after losing Danilo to injury and Wolves star Silva is now poised to put pen-to-paper on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Clement has held positive talks with Silva about the move and the lure of European football has ensured Rangers have landed the striker ahead of Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The 21-year-old will bolster an attack that has relied upon Cyriel Dessers in recent weeks as Kemar Roofe continues to endure a frustrating spell due to ongoing injury issues.
Silva has spent time on loan at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven since moving to the Premier League in a £35million move from Porto in September 2020. Now he is poised to make the switch north of the border and spearhead Clement’s bid for further domestic and European triumphs this term.
The Belgian was asked about his potential January business ahead of the win over Motherwell last weekend and said: “It is simple in that way, as long as there are no signings then you can be as far down the road as you want, you don’t know how long the road is.
“As long as nobody is in the building and there are no medical exams made and the paper is not signed then you are nowhere. It is always like that. I have seen things go really fast in the past, sometimes you think everything is OK and another team gets the player in the last seconds. Those things happen. We will see. At the moment, something is signed, I can promise you guys that one second later you will know.”
