Alfredo Morelos' future looked to be away from Santos after the club's first-ever relegation from the Brazilian top-flight.

The former Ibrox striker had joined the club in a bumper £40,000-per-week contract in the summer after leaving Glasgow at the end of his Rangers contract.

However, the move looked doomed as Morelos' new side dropped into the second tier of Brazilian football.

And the Colombian couldn't even have an impact at the club with injury issues limiting him to just 76 minutes and one start at the club since joining in August.

A clause in Morelos' contract could have allowed the striker to depart the club for nothing after the relegation - although interest in the forward was not huge.

Talks between Morelos and Santos then led to an incredible pay cut being accepted by Morelos in order to stay and the club and attempt to lead them back to the top-flight.

Reports in Brazil claim after talks, including with representative Martin Camono, Morelos agreed to cut his wages in half and drop to £20,000-per-week.

Morelos rejoined the club for pre-season training and is thought to be fit for when action resumes.

And his most recent social media post suggests Morelos is committed to the club despite previous question marks over his future.

Sharing an image of himself recovering after training in an ice bath, Morelos posted: "Vamos".

And crucially, Morelos was in Santos colours as he aims to fire his side back into the first division with four clubs eligible for promotion from the second tier.
