Ally McCoist has highlighted three key areas Rangers must recruit in this month to be successful come the end of the season.

The Ibrox side have already signed forward Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves but with Danilo out injured, Kemar Roofe struggling for fitness and Cyriel Dessers lacking consistency, the former Scotland international feels more enforcements at the top end of the pitch.

McCoist also insists the Light Blues need more creativity in the squad, as well as depth in the middle of the park.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "Rangers have got to strengthen. The centre forward area is a concern with Danilo being out injured.

"Wide areas certainly need strengthening and probably another midfielder. At the back Tavernier's return has been ridiculous.

"Yilmaz was nearly away to Verona but that seems to be on hold. So it doesn't look like there's going to be a lot of chances defensively and I don't think defence is a priority for Rangers.

"The goalkeeper has been out of this world. So they could do with strengthening in the middle of the park and certainly centre forward and the wide areas.

"I don't think they'll get three. But the most important thing is, if they do bring anybody in, they're far better bringing in two that go straight into the team than four for the squad. They need starters."
