Rangers are closing in on their second signing of the January transfer window after agreeing a move for FC Nordsjælland midfielder Mohamed Diomande.

Boss Philippe Clement has been working on adding further firepower to his squad following the arrival of Fabio Silva on a loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of the month. And the Rangers Review understands that Diomande is now set to put pen-to-paper at Ibrox after leaving Nordsjælland’s training camp.

The 22-year-old came through the ranks at the famous Right to Dream academy in Ghana before making the move to Denmark in 2020. He made his Superliga debut against AC Horsens and has gone on to establish himself as one of the most promising players in the division in recent seasons as well as earning international recognition with the Ivory Coast.

Diomande operates primarily from the left side of midfield but can also play centrally and his arrival will give Clement another much-needed option as he seeks to maintain Rangers’ push for the Premiership title this term.

The capture of Diomande comes as Rangers sweat over the fitness of Abdallah Sima after he sustained a thigh injury at AFCON. Sima has left the Senegal camp to return to Glasgow for assessment. News of his fitness blow emerged during the Scottish Cup win over Dumbarton on Saturday as goals from John Lundstram, Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier and Scott Wright saw Rangers move into the next round.

Clement said: “It is always dangerous to hear those things when they happen when they are not here. I always like to hear my medical staff and what they think about things so Abda is going to come back as fast as possible. I have been in contact with him already. He is going to come back as fast as possible to make a good assessment and to see how long he will be out.”
