Rangers will complete a move for FC Nordsjælland star Mohamed Diomande in the coming days after seeing his arrival in Scotland delayed by Storm Isha.
The 22-year-old is poised to become the second signing of the January window for boss Philippe Clement after agreeing terms on a long-term Ibrox deal. Diomande will follow Fabio Silva in joining Clement’s side following his switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of the month.
Diomande was due to travel to make his way to Glasgow on Monday but the Rangers Review understands that disruption caused by Storm Isha altered those plans as wind and rain swept across the county and caused severe disruption to airports and rail services. The temporary delay has not put the switch in jeopardy and the Ivory Coast youth will become part of Clement’s group once he has completed a medical.
The capture of Diomande - a product of the renowned Right to Dream academy in Ghana - comes as Rangers sweat over the fitness of Abdallah Sima after he sustained a thigh injury at AFCON. Sima has left the Senegal camp to return to Glasgow for assessment. News of his fitness blow emerged during the Scottish Cup win over Dumbarton on Saturday as goals from John Lundstram, Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier and Scott Wright saw Rangers move into the next round.
Speaking after the victory, boss Clement said: “It is always dangerous to hear those things when they happen when they are not here. I always like to hear my medical staff and what they think about things so Abda is going to come back as fast as possible. I have been in contact with him already. He is going to come back as fast as possible to make a good assessment and to see how long he will be out.”
