Ally McCoist has named his ultimate Rangers XI, but quickly admitted it would change every day.

The Ibrox legend was tasked to select his all-time Rangers line-up in a TNT Sports feature.

And McCoist delivered an incredible starting line-up jam-packed with icons throughout the years - but there was no room for himself on the pitch.

Instead, McCoist opted for Derek Johnstone supporter by Ian Durrant in attack as he adopted a 3-5-2 formation - which meant legend Sandy Jardine missed out.

Andy Goram was chosen at his goalkeeper with an intimidating rearguard of Richard Gough, Terry Butcher and John Greig.

Then, across the midfield McCoist selected Brian Laudrup, Paul Gascoigne, Graeme Souness, Jim Baxter and Davie Cooper.

McCoist said: "I'll run through it again, as I say I can't believe I have not got Sandy Jardine in it.

"There's so many...if I'm playing with a 4-4-2 I change it and Sandy is my right back all day, Gary Stevens would consider himself unlucky. Gary was brilliant for us. Trevor Steven was brilliant for us.

"But I'm going three at the back. I'm going Andy Goram in goals, who I would suggest would have a quiet 90 minutes.

"I'd then go Richard Gough, Terry Butcher, John Greig.

"Five across the middle. Laudrup, Gascoigne, Souness, Baxter, Cooper. Durrant in front and big Derek Johnstone.

"Apologies to those who haven't made it but I'll probably change my mind tomorrow and you'll get back in!"

Pushed to choose a captain from his selection, McCoist added: "Captain could be any of the three at the back. Or Souness for that matter. I've got a decision to pick out of the four of them. Do I go for Souness, Gough, Butcher or Greig?

"John Greig is my captain."

Despite having g picked the team, McCoist then admitted he would only be assistant manager as he hailed legendary Rangers boss Walter Smith.

The Ibrox hero explained: "I'm manager, there is no doubt about it, I have picked that team so I am manager and my co-manager is without doubt Walter.

"In fact, Walter is manager and I'm his assistant, I don't mind that at all. That would be the dream."

McCoist's Ultimate Rangers XI: Andy Goram, Richard Gough, Terry Butcher, John Greig, Brian Laudrup, Paul Gascoigne, Graeme Souness, Jim Baxter, Cooper, Ian Durrant, Derek johnstone.
