KEMAR Roofe has admitted he is still unsure if he will be offered a new contract at Rangers when his current deal expires in the summer – but stressed he would like to remain at Ibrox and work under Philippe Clement.

Striker Roofe has struggled with injuries once again this season and has only scored two goals – against Ross County in the cinch Premiership in August and Real Betis in the Europa League in December.

However, the 31-year-old, a £4.5m signing from Anderlecht back in 2020, is fit again now after undergoing a hip operation and determined to contribute in the remaining weeks of the 2023/24 season.

The Jamaican internationalist stressed he has enjoyed playing under Belgian manager Clement since returning from surgery and wants to help Viaplay Cup winners Rangers lift the Premiership and Scottish Cup trophies in the coming months.

Asked if he will still be a Rangers player next season, he said: “Who knows? My contract is up at the end of the season, so you need to ask the people above that question.

“It’s a great club, the fanbase is top. Being in competitions like the Champions League and Europa League is amazing.

Rangers Review: “But for me now right now, I’m just trying to play games this season, do my best and get as many trophies as we can. I want to play more games, win more games and score more goals.

“I feel good. I had my hip operation that I needed for a long time and am pain free. If I’m being honest, I rushed back too soon after that operation, but I got the issue sorted and now I feel good.”

Asked if he felt that contributing to a treble-winning campaign would earn him a new deal, Roofe said: “I don’t know. You’d need to ask the gaffer and people that are in control of the contracts. Of course. I really like playing in this squad and under the gaffer.

“It’s frustrating if you’re not playing. You want to play. If you’re injured or not injured, you want to play and it’s going to be frustrating. But it’s just about having the right mentality. You support the team, train properly and do your best when you come on the pitch.”
