John Nelms has revealed the match between Dundee and Rangers was deemed unplayable over two "small spots" at Dens Park.
The Dundee chief executive explained two areas of the pitch caused concern for Don Robertson with the ball not bouncing on the affected areas.
And the match official made the decision to postpone the match on the basis the club would be unable to correct the issue before kick-off at 12pm.
The match was postponed just 90 minutes before the scheduled kick-off for the match which was due to be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

The Rangers squad had just arrived at Dens Park when the decision was communicated that the match would not go ahead.
And Nelms was left disappointed at the decision as he revealed tireless work had been ongoing since 5am on Sunday morning.
He told Sky Sports: "We're supposed to be one of the most robust leagues in the world...and the ball is rolling.
"We've had guys out here since 5am and Mother Nature's done what they've done.
"We've done everything we could to get this pitch into place.
"We have two small spots where the ball is not bouncing, the rest of the pitch is fine.
"And they said they don't think we're going to be able to get it playable before 12 o'clock.
"That's where we are at."

A Rangers statement on the match confirmed: "GAME OFF: Today’s match against Dundee has been postponed.
"The club will make further comment in due course."
A Dundee update added: "Following the referee’s second pitch inspection this morning, today’s cinch Premiership match with Rangers has been postponed.
"Recent rainfall has meant the pitch has become waterlogged and the match has been called off."
