Ally McCoist was left stunned after being informed England supporters expect to win the Euros this summer.
The Rangers icon does have England among the favourites for the title in Germany.
However, he warned that talkSPORT colleague Andy Townsend was entering "dangerous territory" as revealed his expectation that England would win the competition.
McCoist - who will be backing Steve Clarke's Scotland at Euro 2024 - was quick to dismiss Townsend's suggestion, even if he would back England if pressed.
The pundit said: "I'm not having expect! It's different asking who I expect to win it because I'm not English!
"I think you've got to hope and believe you can win it, you can do everything you can to win it.
"But expecting? That's dangerous territory.
"I don't want to contradict myself, if I'm betting on someone to win it, it's England. Them and France are a level above anybody else, including Spain, Germany Portugal and everyone else.
"And I make England slight favourites. But I'm not sure I expect them to win it."

Meanwhile, Rangers could land a tidy transfer windfall should Malik Tillman complete a permanent move to PSV Eindhoven.
The Bayern Munich midfielder is on loan at the Eredivisie club but chiefs are keen to make the move permanent.
Director of football Earnie Stewart told ESPN: "Yeah, I'd say that's fair. That's more than fair.
"Both players are players that have done fantastic for PSV Eindhoven and yeah, I can say that we hope that both players stay."
And any transfer fee could see Rangers receive a kick-back of the profits after Tillman's stint at Ibrox.
The Ibrox side reportedly received a £1m fee in compensation from Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga giants pulled out of a deal to sell Tillman to Rangers.
It's reported Tillman could cost PSV Eindhoven £12m to make his move to the Netherlands permanent. That would mean a £1.2m windfall for Rangers.
