Sam Lammers has revealed the reason why he flopped at Rangers...he was never played in his best position as a striker.

The Dutch forward is enjoying a good loan spell at Utrecht and has scored three goals in ten league games as they try and claim a European spot.

But he failed to hit the heights at Ibrox and has already overtaken his tally in Scotland where he netted just two league goals in 17 appearances, although seven of those were from the bench.

And he thinks he would have scored more goals if he had been played as a striker after revealing he left Rangers in such a rush, his belongings are still in Glasgow.  

He said: "I played more at No.10 at Rangers. I didn't actually play a single match there as a striker.

"At Rangers, I suddenly ended up on the bench and then I didn't even get on anymore.

"And then you are suddenly told that you can leave on loan.

"So by then you already know enough.

"Almost all my stuff is still in Scotland. I was in the Netherlands on holiday when the loan deal went through.

"I didn't go back after that. But I don't need more than some clothes and football boots.

"Moving back to the Netherlands was not in my plans, but it has been good fun. I can visit the family more easily."

And the 26-year-old has hinted he would like to turn the loan move into a permanent one.

He said: "We've lost only once since I got here.

"Although things were going well for me and the team before I started scoring, as a striker you feel a little bit better when those goals are scored.

"I really can't say anything definite about my future, because nothing has been decided yet. The goal now is to reach European football with Utrecht, after that I will look further ahead.”
