Dundee and Rangers will finally play their twice-postponed Scottish Premiership fixture on Wednesday.

The fixture - now the final match before the split - had been called off twice due to an unplayable surface.

Should all go to plan, the match will finally be played on April 17 in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

However, alternative arrangements have been discussed by the SPFL and clubs should the surface be deemed unplayable for a third time this week.

When is Dundee vs Rangers? 

Dundee will host Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday, April 17.

The match is set to be played at Dens Park.

Kick-off is at 8pm.

When was the match meant to be played?

The match was originally scheduled to be played on March 17 but had to be called off with the pitch deemed unplayable by referee Don Robertson.

The decision was made just 90 minutes before kick-off after a pitch inspection by the match referee.

Then, the match was postponed for a second time on April 10 due to heavy rainfall leaving the surface unplayable.

Therefore, the match had to be rescheduled again for Wednesday, April 17.

Why was Dundee vs Rangers not played before Old Firm? 

Questions were raised over why the match was not scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 after the initial call-off.

That would have seen the match be played before Rangers' fixture against Celtic and Dundee's match against Motherwell.

It's understood both clubs agreed to play the match on Wednesday, April 10.

Dundee chiefs had suggested an extra week would provide more opportunity to prepare the playing surface for the match. 

It's reported that the club told the SPFL that their pitch wouldn't be playable on either April 2 or 3.

What will happen if Dens Park pitch is unplayable again? 

Should the pitch be deemed unplayable then the match will be moved to McDiarmid Park.

The match could even be moved to the Perth ground should it be likely the surface be unplayable.

Rangers have confirmed supporters will be able to attend the match even if the venue is changed to McDiarmid Park.

What have SPFL said on the Dundee vs Rangers fixture? 

A spokesperson for the SPFL said: “We confirmed yesterday that the Dundee v Rangers game is rescheduled for 8pm on Wednesday April 17 at Dens Park, live on Sky Sports.

“We have been in extensive discussions with both clubs about arrangements if, for whatever reason, the match cannot be played at Dens Park on Wednesday. These include the possibility of the match moving to an alternative venue.

“We will confirm these arrangements as soon as possible, and well in advance of Wednesday’s match.”

What have Rangers said on the fixture? 

A Rangers statement read: "Rangers has written to the SPFL outlining its position following today’s further postponement of the Dundee Scottish Premiership fixture.

"The negligence and unprofessionalism demonstrated by Dundee Football Club, where they have repeatedly breached SPFL rules, continues to have a damaging effect on the top professional league in the country.

"In a week where record TV viewing figures were recorded for a match in the same competition, and this evening’s game due to be televised again by Sky Sports, this episode is deeply embarrassing and has also been eminently avoidable.

"Rangers expects the SPFL to take proportionate and decisive action in accordance with its rules, and the club will continue to make representations to them in the strongest possible manner.

"The club has been repeatedly putting forward solutions to the SPFL, which have not been taken up. It has again proposed a solution to the preparation and execution of this rescheduled fixture and is awaiting a response from the SPFL. As things stand, the rescheduled match will be on Wednesday, April 17 at 8pm. The club considers that this matter has been handled incorrectly throughout by both Dundee and the SPFL.

"At this time, we sympathise fully once again with our supporters, approximately 4000 of whom were looking forward to attending tonight’s game. Having already been left hugely inconvenienced and out of pocket by the first postponement last month, it is entirely unacceptable and disrespectful on the part of Dundee FC to have allowed this situation to have developed again."

What have Dundee said on the matter? 

A Dundee statement read: "Following this afternoon’s second scheduled pitch inspection the match referee has deemed the pitch at The Scot Foam Stadium unplayable after heavy rain this afternoon and tonight’s match against Rangers has been postponed.

"This match will now be played next Wednesday, 17th April, at The Scot Foam Stadium with a 8pm kick-off.

"Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters, staff and contractors who have helped us with the pitch in the last week. Unfortunately one area of the pitch was deemed unplayable due to the heavy rain this afternoon."
