Ally McCoist has broken his silence over his talkSPORT absence as he admitted it will take "another 72 hours" to get over the Rangers loss against Ross County.

Listeners had bombarded host Jeff Stelling with questions over McCoist's whereabouts on Monday with the popular pundit missing from his usual breakfast slot.

While no official reason was given for McCoist missing the show, co-host Stelling had poked fun at the Scotland hero suggesting it was all down to the defeat against Ross County.

And this morning, McCoist responded to Stelling as he offered his take on events in Dingwall as he returned to the talkSPORT studio on Tuesday.

Clearly disappointed, McCoist conceded he is not over the loss to Ross County and joked he would decide whether he has recovered from the shock loss after Stelling suggested his return signalled McCoist's moving on from the weekend.

The Ibrox icon, though, did spare some credit for "tremendous" Ross County as he admitted Jack Butland saved Rangers from an even worse result.

Speaking on Tuesday, McCoist said: "I think to be fair I will be the one who decides whether I have recovered.

"It will take at least, I would imagine, another 72 hours before I am over that, but fair play to Ross County who incidentally were tremendous and we weren't.

"Thoroughly deserved. They went about it and it was one of these games you watch and can see it coming from the word go.

"They were hungrier, effectively wanted it more and if it wasn't for Jack Butland again it wouldn't have been as close. He had another excellent game."

Stelling had joked on Monday: "A lot of you are asking where Ally McCoist is this morning.

"Well, Ross County 3 Rangers 2 explains everything.

"Ross County play in Dingwall by the way. Population 5,500 and they have never, ever, ever beaten Rangers."
