Ally McCoist insists he never wants to see Celtic fall out of Scotland's top flight like Rangers did.

The Pundit of the Year admits he'd miss the derby games between the pair too much.

The 61-year-old says, as a fan of one of Glasgow's big two, the matches against each other are 'what you live for'.

And so, he never wants to see Celtic relegated or demoted from the top flight of Scottish football.

McCoist managed Rangers during the dark days of 2012 when the club found itself in the Third Division.

He brought them back up through the lower leagues, to the Championship, before leaving in 2014, with Mark Warburton drafted in as his replacement.

McCoist loves the derby matches between Rangers and Celtic. Having attended the most recent 3-3 stalemate, he admits he'd hate to see them go. 

When he appeared on talkSPORT this morning, the discussion arose when a Liverpool fan admitted he didn't want to see Everton relegated from the Premier League.

Asked if he would want to see Celtic drop out of the Premiership, McCoist firmly answered: "No. The bottom three would suit me fine.

"The games against each other are what we all generally live for. I was at the 3-3 game (at Ibrox), tremendous.

"When Rangers went down to the third division, I don't care what anybody says, you missed us. You missed the Old Firm games, because there's something special about them.

"So I understand that - I don't think Liverpool fans would want Everton to be successful, but they love the games against them, and they would miss the games against them."

Meanwhile, the Scottish Cup final is reportedly set to go head-to-head for viewers with the FA Cup final south of the border next month.

Rangers and Celtic will meet in the showpiece event at Hampden to round off the domestic season in Scotland on Saturday, May 25.
