Steven Davis has backed compatriot Ross McCausland to play a 'big part' in Rangers' bid for a domestic clean sweep in the coming weeks.

Davis pitched McCausland into first team action during his spell in interim charge at Ibrox as he came off the bench in the defeat to Aris Limassol and then featured against St Mirren. McCausland scored his first goal for his boyhood heroes in the return fixture at home to Aris and has made more than 30 appearances in all competitions this term.

A dream few weeks for the Northern Irishman saw him make his international debut and commit his long-term future to Rangers. Now he has the chance to end his breakthrough campaign with all three medals.

“I think the future is bright, it’s up to him now to try and maintain that and kick on again," Davis said. “He got the opportunity under me to come into the side and when Philippe came in he really liked what he saw and what he could bring to the team in terms of his creativity and runs in behind.

“He’s played in some big games now, he’s picked up a lot of experience in a short space of time. The injury has hindered him slightly so it’s about him finding his feet again. Ross could play a big part between now and the end of the season.”
