A touching story about legendary Rangers figure Walter Smith has been shared in light of Everton's victory over Liverpool last night.
The Toffees gave their Premier League survival hopes a major boost with the 2-0 win at Goodison.
Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were the scorers, as Jurgen Klopp's side suffered a bitterly disappointing defeat - which could have spelled the end to their title hopes.
It was a rare Merseyside derby win for Sean Dyche's side, with Liverpool enjoying the upper hand in the fixture for several years.
That took Don Hutchison back to 1998 when Smith guided Everton to a victory at Anfield.
The Scot told of how the former Scotland manager took his players into the city centre on the following day, so that they could help the fans prolong the enjoyment of the occasion.
He wrote on X: "I remember after the Everton Derby win at Anfield in 98. Walter Smith told me the morning after to get the boys in our club tracksuits onto the team coach at Bellfield. We had no idea why.
"Walter took us for a fry-up into town so the blue half could see us on their work day.
"Walter wanted to make sure the Everton fans could lord it over the red half that day at work in the city centre and make sure the fans had a great day and were proud of their team/club.
"Also to rub it into the red half for a day. R.I.P Walter + Howard."
