Dundee will reportedly fight Rangers' demands for a five-figure compensation fee after their Scottish Premiership fixture at Dens Park was postponed twice.

It's claimed Dundee chiefs will battle against the claim for compensation from Ibrox over travel and accommodation costs.

It was earlier reported that Rangers officials want Dundee to front the cost for two overnight stays at St Andrews as well as travel costs for the postponed matches.

The games - which were called off in March and April respectively - have already proved costly for Dundee, with Sky Sports gaining £30,000 in compensation after they lost out on two broadcast opportunities. 

This has been covered by Dundee as part of their £150,000 fine, of which £120,000 is suspended until the end of next season.

While Dundee accepted the fine from the SPFL and covered Sky Sports fees - they won't willingly pay up to Rangers' demands.

The Daily Record reports Dundee do not plan on reimbursing Rangers for their travel and accommodation. Dialogue between the two clubs is said to be ongoing.

While no official comment has been made by Dundee, it has reportedly been made clear they have no intention to accept the compensation claim over the postponements - due to a waterlogged pitch.

Dundee will fight their case on the basis of the overnight accommodation not being their choice but rather that of Rangers officials meaning it is not their responsibility to cover the cost.

The Dens side will start work on improving their playing surface after their final home game of the season on Saturday, May 18 against Kilmarnock.

It's reported that this will cost them over £180,000. 

They have a new groundsman - pinched from city rivals Dundee United - starting in the summer too, as they aim to avoid any further issues in the future.
