Paddy McNair has been linked with a transfer move to Rangers.

The midfielder is a free agent this summer with a number of clubs already credited with interest in the 29-year-old.

McNair - who progressed through the Manchester United youth academy - has left Middlesbrough after six years at the Championship club.

The Northern Ireland international has not been offered a new deal at the club and will search for a new team in the summer.

Rangers are amongst the clubs linked with a free transfer swoop for McNair - who is a boyhood fan of the Ibrox club.

The Belfast Telegraph reports Rangers, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Italian club Como all have interest in McNair. But it's claimed a move to Ibrox is 'likely to appeal' to McNair given his support for Rangers.

Confirming his Middlesbrough exit, McNair posted on his personal Instagram: "After six years and 219 appearance’s my time @theboroofficial has come to an end.

"Big thank you to all of the players, staff and the fans for the support throughout the years.

"Looking forward to the next chapter❤️"

The Rangers transfer links come after McNair was a reported target for Glasgow rivals Celtic in 2019.

And as speculation ramped up over a possible move to Celtic - an image of McNair supporting Rangers was uncovered online.

The midfielder had shared a snap of himself at Ibrox for a match against Celtic as he sported a Rangers scarf back in 2018.

He captioned the image: "Cmon the gers".

Asked on Celtic interest in McNair at the time, then boss Neil Lennon commented: “There’s an interest there, yeah.”
