Rangers wonderkid Alexander Smith is close to agreeing a first professional deal.

The top prospect, 15, has been tracked by Premier League and MLS clubs but is reportedly nearing a deal at Ibrox.

Smith - who holds dual US and Scottish nationality - is said to be close to penning a contract at Rangers valid until 2027.

Fabrizio Romano claims Smith signing a first professional deal was a "top priority" for Philippe Clement and the Rangers board.

And it's claimed Rangers have fended off significant transfer interest to near an agreement with Smith.

The Scotland under-16 talent - who also represented USA at the youth level - is highly rated at Ibrox with hopes of a bright future in the game.

Transfer specialist Romano said: "Rangers top prospect Alexander Smith close to agreeing first professional contract at the club valid until June 2027.

"He’s elegible for USA & Scotland national teams.

"Rangers fought off strong interest from PL and MLS to keep him, top priority for the board and Clement."

Smith was previously tipped for a move to Arsenal which would in turn have meant Rangers received a compensation fee for his development.

Clubs reportedly pushed to try and lure him away from the Rangers academy but it now appears Smith will pen his first professional deal in Glasgow.
