Rangers will sell Sam Lammers this summer following his impressive form on loan at FC Utrecht.

Lammers, 27, joined the Ibrox club from Atalanta last summer but failed to settle in Glasgow and scored just two goals before the winter break. After moving to the Eredivisie Lammers managed 11 goals before the end of the campaign, breaking a 40-year-old record on his way by scoring in seven successive league matches.

Lammers, who played predominantly as a No.10 during his spell at Ibrox under Michael Beale and Philippe Clement, has thrived operating as an out-and-out No.9 at Utrecht. He was crowned Eredivisie Player of the Month in April.

The Rangers Review understands a decision has been made to sell the PSV academy graduate this summer instead of prolonging his stay at Ibrox. Utrecht are hopeful of bringing Lammers back to the club on a permanent basis but face competition from several other sides in the Netherlands who hold significant interest in the forward’s services. Two European sides outside the Netherlands are also said to hold an interest.

Sources insist Rangers are hopeful of turning a profit on a player who looked set to leave for a cut-price deal before a loan deal to Utrecht and will regain the fee paid to Atalanta last summer.

Lammers, who revealed last week that talks with Rangers would take place at the end of May to discern his future, has said previously that playing as a No.9 is the reason behind his upturn in form since January.

The forward was guilty of missing notable chances at Ibrox but ended the season as one of the Netherlands’ most in-form forwards.

He said: "I played more at No.10 at Rangers. I didn't actually play a single match there as a striker.”

Speaking in a separate interview before Utrecht’s defeat against Go Ahead Eagles which resulted in Ron Jans’ side missing European qualification, Lammers added: "I still have to contact the people at Rangers. That will happen as soon as the season is over.

"If I had spent the last few months focusing on where I will be playing next season, I really wouldn't have scored goals so easily.

"I have had a lot of questions about my future in recent weeks. To be honest, I am not concerned with that at all right now and I want to enjoy this moment.

"I just want to achieve European football for the club. When I came to Utrecht we also said that the goal was to achieve European football, which is now very close."
