Rangers will have to stump a fee of around £4million if they wish to strike a deal to sign winger Oscar Cortes on a permanent basis this summer.

The Colombian made the move to Ibrox from RC Lens during the January transfer window as Philippe Clement added much-needed pace and width to his forward line. Cortes showed up well in his first half-a-dozen outings for Rangers and scored his maiden goal for Clement's side with a fine strike in the win over Hearts.

His campaign was brought to a premature end, however, as he was crocked during the Premiership clash at Rugby Park. Clement confirmed Cortes suffered a 'severe' muscle injury and he was forced to go under the knife as he was ruled out for the remainder of the term.

The 20-year-old has continued to utilise the facilities at Auchenhowie in recent days as he works his way back up to full fitness ahead of pre-season. And he could join up with Clement's squad once again as Rangers look to complete a permanent switch.

Cortes moved to Ligue 1 from Millonarios last summer for a fee in the region of £4million. And the Rangers Review understands the French outfit will look to recoup that fee before allowing the forward to move on after just 12 months at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Cortes emerged as one of the brightest young talents in Colombia as he emerged through the ranks at Millonarios but his move to Lens - who are part of the same ownership group as the South American side - didn't work out. Cortes could now be on the move once again as Clement looks to add firepower to his ranks ahead of the Champions League qualifiers and new domestic campaign.

“I’m doing well now, after everything that has happened,” Cortes said in an interview in his homeland last month. “There were obviously difficult times but I think that with the help of all the people I have around me they helped me a lot, and they have helped me to be calm in my head as well.

"I arrived and started to do things very well and well unfortunately the injury came and I had to stop for three months but I thank God I am already in the recovery process.

“Me and my agents are keeping tabs on the negotiations that are taking place. We will see what happens. I'm talking to my agents and also to Lens and Rangers. Let's see what happens. I am waiting.

“Since I started playing soccer, my dream has been to play for Real Madrid, it has always been my dream. My dream is to get to Real Madrid. With work and sacrifice I believe that it can be achieved at some point. They are my team.”
