Philippe Clement is set to add Dutch coach Andries Ulderink to his Rangers backroom staff ahead of the new season.

The Rangers Review can reveal that Ulderink will join up with the Light Blues in the coming days as Clement continues his preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Ulderink was linked with a move to Glasgow earlier this year. He is now poised to get down to business at Auchenhowie after agreeing terms on an assistant manager berth.

The arrival of the 54-year-old will not impact on the role of Stephan Van Der Heyden. The Belgian was named as Clement's right hand man when he was appointed as Michael Beale's successor in October and will continue in that position as the staff work collaboratively behind the scenes.

Clement will also retain the services of Alex Rae and Brian Gilmour, both of whom were appointed in the aftermath of Beale's sacking, as part of his support staff. Colin Stewart will continue to oversee the goalkeepers as Liam Kelly prepares to put pen-to-paper on a deal that will see him provide back-up to Jack Butland next term.

Ulderink has had spells at various clubs over his coaching career and spent last season as assistant manager at Royal Antwerp. The Dutchman has also had stints with Reading and Ajax, where he spent two seasons in charge of their Under-21 side.

Clement has spent the summer putting plans in place to overhaul Rangers on and off the park after falling short in his ambition to win the Premiership last term. His side were also beaten in the final of the Scottish Cup as they lost to Celtic at Hampden.

Brazilian full-back Jefte, Oscar Cortes, the Colombian winger, and former AC Milan defender Clinton Nsiala became the first three arrivals of the summer. The Rangers Review revealed last week that Hamza Igamane will become the next man through the door after terms were finalised on his switch from AS Far in Morocco. On Thursday, Connor Barron put pen-to-paper on a move from Aberdeen as he agreed a four-year deal at Ibrox.

“It is important that young Scottish talents play a big part in the years ahead, and we are delighted to add a talented midfielder in Connor to the ranks at Rangers," Nils Koppen, the director of football recruitment, said of Barron. “He is a player that we have directly competed against on the pitch in recent years and, through his hard work and dedication, we believe he will prove a real asset to the side.”
