Rangers will not pursue a move for Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan as Philippe Clement continues his search for reinforcements this summer.

Clement has been heavily linked with an interest in the 30-year-old and reports in Spain over the weekend indicated that a switch was close to completion amid suggestions that a salary contribution and future fee had been agreed. But the Rangers Review understands that Jordan will not be making the move to Ibrox and that the deal will not go any further this summer.

Clement has added a handful of players to his squad in recent weeks and remains in the market for additions in several areas following the arrival of Vaclav Cerny on a season-long loan deal from Wolfsburg last week. Jordan was touted as the next potential arrival in Glasgow and his future at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan remains uncertain ahead of the new campaign.

Cerny was unable to make his debut in the 4-4 draw with Union Berlin on Saturday as Rangers wait for international clearance. He is expected to be part of the group for the Premiership opener with Hearts this weekend, however, as Rangers kick-off their top flight title bid.

“That is a good question as a journalist,” Clement said when asked if he expected further deals to be done before the trip to Tynecastle. “But you know I can't answer that because as long as there is no pen on paper, there is nothing in this world. It can be five minutes, five weeks… I don’t know, but there will be other signings.”

Clement was quizzed on the future of captain James Tavernier in the aftermath of the draw with Berlin as Cyriel Dessers and Tom Lawrence both netted braces in the final friendly of the summer. Tavernier has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Ibrox but captained the team against Union as he continued his preparations for a defining run of August fixtures.

“I don’t know, there is maybe interest in a lot of players, I don’t know,” Clement said. “He is a player for Rangers and is playing for Rangers. As long as players don’t say they want to leave, [they are] Rangers players.

I think for every player who was here or in training, who is not saying they want to leave. So we will see.”
