Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rangers have had a formal bid rejected from Almeria for Brazilian defender Kaiky.

The 20-year-old centre-back began his career at Santos (who famously primed Neymar), before moving to the Spanish second division outfit in 2022.

Kaiky then spent time on loan at Albacete Balompié, who also play in Spain's second tier.

"Understand Almeria turned down formal bid from Rangers for Brazilian 20 year old centre back Kaiky," Romano said by way of X (formerly Twitter) "Proposal worth €750k loan plus €7m and 30% sell-on clause has been rejected this week."

With the departure of Connor Goldson during this window, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has spoken before about reenforcing his side with players who can hit the ground running upon arrival.

Earlier this summer, he said: “ I am very motivated to build the club and help in that. It’s focusing not only on the short term but also on the long term.

“If I only looked at the short term I would only bring in experienced players who can do the job directly. Mistakes like that have been made too much in the past and at the end you don’t reach your goals.

"You need a different philosophy and that’s what we are all working towards. This is a massive rebuilding job, it is true.”
