Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi has opted against a transfer to Rapid Bucharest.

It's believed that a move to the Romanian club or their SuperLiga rivals Universitatea Craiova has become increasingly unlikely amid recent interest.

The 25-year-old Romania internationalist is currently training with the Rangers B team after manager Philippe Clement indicated that he should seek a new opportunity away from Ibrox.

While Hagi would prefer to remain with the Scottish Premiership giants, if he does decide to leave and a sale is forced through, a return to his homeland seems improbable.

"I told you, there was a clear discussion with Hagi about this before the summer camp," Clement said of the players situation during a recent press conference.  

"I won't go into details. I can only say that it's not my decision. Please, I want to talk about the players who are currently involved at Rangers."

Rapid's owner Dan Șucu confirmed last week that he wanted the playmaker at Giulești:

"Yes, we want him," he stated.

Rangers offloaded Ben Davies to Birmingham City on Sunday, and fringe stars such as Alex Lowry and Scott Wright, plus Todd Cantwell - who submitted a transfer request earlier this summer - could all still depart the club before Friday's transfer deadline.
