Philippe Clement insisted on Saturday evening that he expected more incomings than outgoings during the closing stages of the transfer window. A couple of days on, Rangers have yet to do a deal either way.
The Belgian has repeatedly reiterated the point that he has to buy before he can sell at present and that is why supporters are so keen to see players leave Ibrox. The departure of Ben Davies to Birmingham City on Sunday was the latest domino to fall into place and his squad slot is expected to be filled before the close of business on Friday night.

The work that Rangers do between now and then will shape the narrative and the ambitions on and off the park. Here, the Rangers Review provides the latest update on where Clement stands in the market.
Todd Cantwell
The Rangers Review revealed on Tuesday afternoon that Blackburn Rovers could offer Cantwell a route out of Ibrox. It is several weeks since Clement stated that the midfielder had asked to leave the club this summer and time is now of the essence for both parties. Cantwell wishes to depart and Rangers need him to exit before a replacement at No.10 can be recruited.
“Todd made his own opinion about things, why he don't want to stay in Scotland,” Clement said ahead of the win over Ross County. “And I don't speak only about Rangers, it's more Scotland. Why he wanted to leave. So those are decisions made for me. And it's seeing what's a good deal for them, but also for the club. And I will hear when it's the case. Until now it was not the case, apparently.”
Rovers are currently managed by former Ibrox trialist John Eustace, who has also previously linked with the top job in Govan. The Championship outfit were in EFL Cup action on Tuesday evening against Blackpool and attentions will now turn to the final days of the window. Cantwell's name is high on the list at Ewood Park and both a loan deal and a permanent transfer remain live options on the table. Initial contact has already been made across the border.
Scott Wright
The Rangers Review understands that Eustace was previously keen on a move for winger Rabbi Matondo. Rovers made an enquiry about the Welshman earlier this summer but he now looks set to remain at Ibrox after catching the eye in the win over Ross County on Saturday.

Scott Wright is attracting interest from England, however. Birmingham City are keen to complete a deal for another Rangers player after their capture of Davies over the weekend and Wright could make the move across the border in the coming days. St Andrew's is now his most likely destination.
The former Aberdeen forward was close to leaving the club last summer before a move to Turkish side Pendikspor collapsed at the eleventh hour. A year on, his Rangers career is now set to come to an end and a six-figure fee will be enough to secure his services.
Ianis Hagi
The Romanian turned down a return to his homeland earlier this week before his father, Gheorghe, aimed a strongly worded attack at Rangers over their perceived handling of the situation this summer. Time will tell if Clement wishes to address those comments when he speaks later this week ahead of the Old Firm fixture.
Hagi Jnr broke his silence on the matter on Instagram on Tuesday night. If he is to remain at Ibrox, his contractual situation must be resolved. It would be quite something if that scenario unfolded over the next 72 hours.
"I've been aware of the noise and speculation regarding my situation, my role and my contract in the club," Hagi wrote. "I have loved playing for Rangers and the Ibrox fans since the moment I got here. I want to make it clear, I have never once asked to leave this football club.
"I will always make myself available, and there's always a way to navigate around any situation if there's a will on both sides and that was communicated officially weeks ago by me and my team. I'm here, willing, and Rangers Ready to help, work and fight for the club, team and manager."
Leon King
The 20-year-old has struggled to establish himself under Clement and his match minutes have been limited. A move away from Ibrox seems to be the best option for his career but he is contracted until the summer of 2026 and his versatility could yet prove useful this season.
Reports on Monday credited Salford City with an interest in the defender. The Rangers Review understands that move is unlikely as it stands. King was the subject of interest from England last summer and his status as a club-trained and homegrown player is beneficial for Rangers when it comes to registering their European squad in the coming days.
Fellow academy graduate Alex Lowry has also been touted for a move south of the border to Carlisle United but the playmaker is considering his options elsewhere. Both players were part of the B Team that lost to Morecambe on Tuesday, with Clinton Nsiala also given another run-out. Adam Devine is another youngster who is looking for regular first team football elsewhere this term.
Ibrahim Adel
The name of the Egyptian forward became a hot topic of conversation earlier this week after reports of a bid. The Rangers Review reported on Monday evening that Clement and Nils Koppen, the director of football recruitment, were aware of Adel but sources insisted that no formal approach had been made at that stage.
A fee of around £5million has been muted amid interest from the Premier League as Leicester City and Ipswich Town reportedly keep tabs on the Under-23 international, who did not feature for Pyramids FC in their Egypt Cup fixture with Al Masry last night. Adel was the standout performer at the Olympics in Paris this summer and the forward could be on the move sooner rather than later.
