Rangers striker Danilo faces around four weeks out of action after suffering a small setback on his knee injury.

The Brazilian has returned to Holland for treatment and rehabilitation and was pictured at Glasgow airport wearing a brace on his leg. The Rangers Review understands the issue is not thought to be serious and Danilo will return to training with Philippe Clement’s side in the coming weeks.

Danilo has been left out of the squad for the upcoming Europa League campaign. It is understood that he will be utilised in domestic fixtures in the immediate future as he continues to work back to full fitness this season.

Danilo spent several months on the sidelines after sustaining a serious knee injury during the Premiership clash with Hearts at Tynecastle in November. He endured a lengthy recovery schedule before joining Clement’s side in Holland at their pre-season training camp.

The 25-year-old scored his first goal of the term in the win over Ross County last month. His game time has been limited, however, and he will now work through another period of rehab before challenging Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane – who made his debut at Parkhead on Sunday – for the main attacking berth in Clement’s side.

The forward told the Rangers Review of his determination to repay the Ibrox crowd for their backing after his first term in Glasgow was wrecked by the facial injury he sustained at McDiarmid Park and the knee surgery that left Clement short of firepower in the second half of the season.

“They have seen that I will always try to bring everything I can on the field and I want to help the team as much as possible with the goals,” Danilo told the Rangers Review. “Last year was not my year. I had some good numbers and some goals and assists but I think now I know everybody in the building and there are fresh players.

"I will do my best to score as many goals as possible and hopefully not have the bad luck with the injuries. I want to help the boys as much as possible and contribute to be part of this squad. It is important that we stick together and work hard as much as we can and bring as many victories as well.

"That is my message to the Rangers fans. I will do more than 120 per cent of myself. I want to score as many goals as possible and I will do my best to make that happen.”
