Nicolas Raskin will have been desperate to make an impact for Rangers last night - because he's now a 'peripheral figure'.

Michael Stewart insists the Belgian midfielder has been 'starved of any real game time' under Philippe Clement.

He arrived in Michael Beale's first transfer window nearly two years ago and started brightly, looking to be an integral player for the Ibrox side.

Things haven't happened for the 23-year-old under Clement though, with chances in the starting XI hard to come by.

He started in last night's 2-0 victory over St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership, but it seems that Connor Barron is first pick alongside Mohamed Diomande.

Stewart was on co-commentary duty on Premier Sports for Sunday's game.

And he doesn't believe Raskin offered enough to convince the manager that he should be starting matches regularly.

The pundit said: "Nicky Clark out of possession has just sat on top of Raskin, who has not really been able to get involved too much in the game.

“His first couple of months at Ibrox, he looked as if he was going to be a wonderful signing for Rangers.

"As you said injury has meant he’s never been able to nail down that position in the middle of the park and obviously Connor Barron has come in this season, he seems to be Philippe Clement’s number one man in the middle of the park.

"Raskin has just become a peripheral figure really.”
