Andy Halliday has slammed those claiming he was disrespectful towards Motherwell for not celebrating his goal against Rangers as 'embarassing'.
The midfielder opened the scoring against his former team at Hampden yesterday in the second Scottish League Cup semi-final.
The former Gers and Hearts player latched onto the end of a cross to the back post, showing great commitment to get his foot to the ball, leaving Jack Butland no chance from close range.
Halliday was subdued, to say the least with his emotions after scoring, as his 'Well teammates surrounded him to celebrate going 1-0 up at the national stadium.
Rangers would go on to win the tie 2-1 in the end thanks to goals by Cyriel Dessers and Nedim Bajrami in the second half.
Post-match, fans of Motherwell and other teams discussed Halliday's lack of celebration widely on social media.
And he issued a strong response during the introduction of Clyde Superscoreboard this evening.
He said: "Nothing should surprise me in the west of Scotland.
"Certainly, the last thing I was trying to do was disrespect Motherwell. That's for sure.

"I've heard that comment being bandied about over the last couple of days, which to me is embarrassing.
"I'll try to bite my tongue as much as I can before I start digging out individuals shall I say?
"Maybe I regret the hands up as that sort of gestures being apologetic, but I certainly wasn't apologising for scoring a goal.
"What I would say is if I played Rangers at Hearts next week then I still wouldn't celebrate.
"I'll never do something to appease other people, that's for sure. I don't regret that side of it at all.
"Shall we rewind the tape a few weeks ago when Louis Moult scored against Motherwell? Or is that forgotten about?"
