Ally McCoist has pinpointed the "incredible" lack of consistency for Rangers as the key problem Philippe Clement must address.
The Ibrox legend, though, has stated the manager needs to be given the chance to fix the issue as he shut down any suggestion of "making changes for the sake of it".
Rangers have been unable to find a rhythm this season as they dropped off the pace in the early stages of the Scottish Premiership campaign with Aberdeen and Celtic nine points in the distance.
The Ibrox club have fallen to defeat against Celtic, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen this season with six wins and one draw in their other seven league contests.
For McCoist, the inconsistency in result and performance has been alarming but the pundit is adamant Clement must be given ample time to resolve the problem himself.

Speaking to sports betting site talkSPORT BET, McCoist said: “I think Philippe Clement has to be given the chance to turn the situation at Rangers around.
"There’s absolutely no point in making changes just for the sake of it. That said, the lack of consistency in Rangers’ performances has been incredible.
“Celtic drew with Aberdeen the other week and the Rangers fanbase went down to Kilmarnock expecting their team to close the gap.
"The team then put in a performance that was unacceptable and lost the game. That’s been the key problem, the inconsistency.
"I watched them against Malmo and FCSB and they were excellent in both games, but you just don’t know what you’re going to get from them at the moment.”
