Michael Beale spoke to the media after Rangers' 2-0 win over Ross County in Dingwall. Here's everything that he had to say...
Thoughts on the game?
First half we were in complete control and missed a couple of chances early in the game. I was delighted for Kemar. We conceded from a set-piece in midweek so it was important we evened that up in terms of being strong in the other box. Typical Kemar finish really, that goalscorer instinct. James scores an excellent goal and at that stage, I am looking for the third before half time but either way, it is a strong first half away from home.
Second half we had big chances but did not always have the control we wanted, Fair play to Malky, he changed things at half time and they stayed completely positive throughout the game. I think their front two are going to be a handful for everybody. I am delighted with the clean sheet. I thought the two centre-halves defended well. I was pleased with John Lundstram today who did a lot of the unsung things, at times making a back three. The subs who came on showed we have variety in terms of pace.
Good to see Roofe back?
We see him every single day so we know what he has been through. We know he is a leader, he has had some issues and has not been able to help us. He has been out for a long long time and he was able to play and score, that is a good trait to have. Let’s hope he can stay fit and it was nice to see Tom Lawrence back as well.
I think after the international break Tom playing from the left or as a number 10 will give us an extra boost in terms of quality and experience. Those two guys have seen a lot and they will help the dressing room at a time when we have a lot of new guys coming in.
Was the performance what you were looking for?
There were a lot of things I was pleased with. At times in the second half, I would have liked us to retain the ball but it was tough because Ross County pressed us so high up the pitch. When I put Rabbi and Abdullah on I was almost saying to the back guys there is an excuse to play the ball down the sides or around the back. But away from home that is a good recipe moving forward. It is certainly a step forward compared to Killie.
PSV…
We have come out of the game with no injuries and now our focus is on a really difficult game but an exciting one and one for everyone. Every week at Rangers feels like a big week. In the time I have been at the club, from 2018 to now no-one has told me there was not a big week. This one is up there.

Can you do the job in Eindhoven?
We are building a team, you can see that. It was a different type of performance next week, today was a different type of performance again. We have a good variety, and the changes we are making are having an impact - in midweek Sima scores, and Matondo off the bench scoring. Today, Kemar Roofe in his first start in a while scores. There are really good signs in that.
Listen, it is a really tough challenge because I think they are a high-quality team with a quality coach, but we will go there and give it a right go. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain, I feel.
Two good performances from the full-backs?
I think every game. I don’t see always what you guys see. I think in Europe, they’ve scored and assisted. Domestically they do the same. Their job is to defend and today we got a clean sheet so everything is positive. I think we have two young ones pushing them in Ridvan and Dujon, and it was the same before with Nathan and Calvin, but they were sold for a lot of money. So I think those two know there are people breathing down their necks, which I think is only good for them. It was an incredible goal from James today.
Butland came for lots of crosses?
There was one right at the end of the first half when he came right to the edge of his box and thought that was fantastic. It is a big part of his game. Every keeper has different parts to their game and that is an asset in terms of what he brings to our team. To be fair to Robby and John, they are that type of goalkeeper so we do have that now in the squad. Jack’s been excellent so far. It is still earlier in his Rangers career, but in terms of first impressions of our league and our club, he has started very well.
How wary should PSV be?
They know we can score against them. They know our football club and everything about it. We are not a secret…sometimes I wish we were. We obviously played them last year and we obviously put a good face to our club in the way we approached the game, the way that we were, and the way we were resilient. We did the same in midweek. I thought it was clear they were a good team but I thought we fought, harassed, we ran we pressured them, we gave them big problems in terms of our speed and pressing. It is important we do the same in midweek.
I think there will be big spaces on the pitch because they will certainly come for us. It is important that when we get our opportunities we take them. I would like to even up the set-plays because set plays in a game like that are crucial. The goal we conceded from one I’m not happy with. So it is important we even that up and score from one in midweek.
