Rangers ran riot at Ibrox as they defeated Hearts 5-0 with a showing brimming with attacking intent.
A double from Alfredo Morelos and goals from Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Fashion Sakala gave them a huge margin of victory.
Here are the big talking points from the game
The Buffalo rampages over the Ibrox turf
Alfredo Morelos had a nightmare international break where he wasn’t selected for the Colombia squad for either of their games. It must have been a frustrating scenario for a striker desperate to play for his national team and make a name for himself on the highest stage while missing one of the most important club games of the season. He looked determined to make his mark from the off and it was clear he was in the mood as he threw himself into the physical confrontation. He battled with the Hearts defence like a lion and got his reward when he finished off an outstanding first-half team move with an emphatic finish at the back post. It was yet more evidence that, for all Kemar Roofe’s technical and tactical gifts, a Rangers side without an on-form Morelos just isn’t the same beast. His second was even better, a stunning left-footed finish into the corner after a brilliant turn just outside the box. He topped it all off with a sublime through ball for Glen Kamara to slot in the third goal. The Buffalo looks hungry once again.
Ryan Jack rolls back the years
Over the many months he’s been out, there’s been a slight sense the size of the former Aberdeen captain’s potential contribution has been lost in the fog of time. He's quickly put that to bed. There’s a reason he was the first name on Steven Gerrard’s teamsheet after all. He's a natural leader on the pitch who now exudes the confidence of a Rangers player who has seen it all before. Calm and composed on the ball, as ever, Jack helped Rangers control the midfield alongside John Lundstram who also had an excellent game in the engine room. The Ibrox crowd gave him the standing ovation he richly deserved on the 67th minute as he made way for Kamara.
Individual defensive mistakes still a concern
Six goals have been lost in the previous two games but rather than structural failings, they have been symptomatic of unusual losses of concentration. All three goals against Ross County were horrific mistakes and while all of Celtic’s goals highlighted issues, their third was a terrible individual error by Borna Barisic. There was another here on the 48th minute when a moment of madness by Calvin Bassey saw him head the ball into the path of Cammy Devlin with just Allan McGregor to beat. The Aussie powerhouse opted to loft the ball over the onrushing keeper and thankfully wide. Van Bronckhorst will be delighted with his team's display but will know such moments need to be eradicated in such a close title race.
Aaron Ramsey watch
The Welshman made an instant impact with a delicious bit of skill upon his first touch, playing in Bassey with a gorgeous reverse. The game was long over when he arrived into the fray but he looked a cut above with every touch. The quicker he can get 90 minutes under his belt the better. He must surely start against Hibs in midweek.
