It was hard not to get carried away after 13 minutes at Ibrox last night.
Summer signing Tom Lawrence had entered the fray at half-time, and it's fair to say he made a quick impact - registering a goal and two assists with his first five touches of the ball.
But what wouldn't have been apparent on TV was the winger's movement. Watching from the peerless vantage point of the Ibrox Press Box it was as much about what the Welshman didn't do as what he did. Taking up an inside left role that was more shadow striker than winger saw him loiter in and around Antonio Colak and he seemed to register at exactly the right place and time with every attack.
It's quite obvious from this cameo alone, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has made a smart signing given Rangers' obvious issue with goals and assists in wide areas last term in comparison with title rivals Celtic. With thin margins between the teams, it's this issue that will likely decide the 22/23 title once again after all.
His opening goal, scored with his first touch, looked an easy finish but watch it again and you will see the pace on the ball from Matondo makes it easy to scoop over the bar. Lawrence finished into the bottom corner with icy precision. On multiple viewings, it was harder than it looked.
To follow that up with two assists capped a sensational night for the new boy and left van Bronckhorst understandably delighted after the match.
The opposition dugout wouldn't have been so happy to see an opposition player shine so spectacularly of course.
While Mark Warburton is a former Rangers manager and still looks out for the club's results he was very much focused on West Ham as their new first-team coach.
But the 58-year-old is a big fan of Lawrence's skillset and feels he can be a big factor in Rangers' desire to beat teams sitting in a low block next season.
I contacted him for a quick chat in the aftermath and he said: "We tried to sign Tom at QPR towards the end of the winter window last season. He's a very talented player. He has individual goal-scoring ability, shooting from range, great technique. He sees a pass, is clever running with the ball and has clever movement.
"When teams get into the low block and ask Rangers to break them down, Tom certainly has the attributes to do that. That's a very shrewd bit of business form Giovanni and likewise Tom, like any player, will relish the expectation of pulling on a blue jersey and in front of a crowd of that quality in a stadium of that stature. It's a good move, I think everyone will benefit from it and I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses for Rangers."
Warburton knows the demands of Rangers, knows the English Championship like the back of his hand and knows where the bargains are found - £230,000 for James Tavernier stands as the ultimate testament to that.
If 28-year-old Lawrence can continue the form he showed last night against a top-class Premier League outfit, he might yet be mentioned in the same bracket in the years to come.
