Here's how the Rangers team were rated after a disastrous 2-1 defeat in Perth to St Johnstone.

Allan McGregor: Was a total spectator until James Brown's incredible 25-yard strike into the postage stamp. The veteran had no chance to stop what was a stunning strike. Did well to grasp the ball after Stevie May's cross found David Wotherspoon in the box close to goal. No blame could be attached for the second goal either after Nicky Clark's deft finish. 6

James Tavernier: Starting to look more like the captain of old in recent games and looks physically stronger. Gave the ball away with a slack pass in the build-up to St Johnstone's goal but the captain was full of energy and put in several tantalising crosses. Brought his team back into the game with a solid hit from the edge of the box for his 90th goal for the club. Far from the worst Rangers player. 6

Borna Barisic: An outstanding late challenge stopped Stevie May running through on goal but didn't get tight enough to Clark moments later when St Johnstone took a 2-0 lead. The Croat continues to be hit-and-miss but with Yilmaz out there's nobody to put pressure on for his place in the team. 5

Ben Davies: Was given a tough time by Stevie May throughout. Decisively made a poor decision just before Jason Brown's powerful strike. He gave the ball away trying to pass out to Lundstram when he should have cleared the danger. The Scouser wasn't in much space and was on the edge of the box so the pass was unwise at best. Subbed after an hour. 4

Leon King: Twisted inside out by May on the left flank and left for dead before he popped the ball into the box for Nicky Clark's goal. Was mugged by Graham Carey late on in a very dangerous situation. Didn't have a lot to do, but was found wanting in moments that counted. The youngster will bounce back of course. You wonder how many of his colleagues will do likewise. 4

James Sands: Neat and tidy at the base of midfield but offered little quality in knitting together defence and attack in a meaningful way. Very pedestrian until being replaced by Glen Kamara. The American will need to do more to nail down a permanent place in the engine room. 5

Malik Tillman: The youngster didn't get everything right but he prompted plenty of attacks in a decent first half. His work rate off the ball is improving too which is a good sign for the future. Removed after contributing little after the break. Hot and cold is still very much a fair description of the Bayern Munich loanee. 6

John Lundstram: The Scouser can do so much better than this. Was partially culpable in St Johnstone's first goal by giving the ball away in a dangerous area. There's no lack of effort but the quality that saw him dominate Europa League opposition last term was nowhere to be seen. Hit the bar with a thundering shot as Rangers pushed for an equaliser. 4

Ryan Kent: Another who is a shadow of what he's capable of. You wonder if his conversion to a chalk-on-the-boots winger is really what the Ibrox men need in domestic games. He looks so neutered against the low block he consistently faces. His Rangers career is meandering to sad conclusion. 4

Fashion Sakala: Started brightly, hitting the bar with a towering header in the first half and always looked capable of roasting St Johnstone left-back Adam Montgomery. Posted missing in the second half with the rest of his teammates. Left the pitch with what looked like a hamstring injury, adding to an already huge injury list. 5

Antonio Colak: Looked very isolated. Had a half chance in the first moments of the game after a terrific pick-out from Tillman. Rangers need to do everything they can to feed a striker with such deadly finishing ability but too often he's forced to feed on scraps and that's a damning indictment of the manager's system. 5

Substitutes

Scott Arfield: Offered little on arrival to the action. 2

Alfredo Morelos: Another poor showing where he offered little. 2

Glen Kamara:  Got on the ball and looked to create. Was busy from the moment he arrived on the grass. 4

Rabbi Matondo: A late sub who added nothing.  2
