Allan McGregor: Wasn't at fault for the goal and actually did brilliantly to save Jonah Ayunga's initial shot before having no chance on the rebound. Didn't actually have much to do in the game. 6

James Tavernier: Not his best game with a few sloppy moments, giving the ball away unnecessarily. Stood up when it mattered though with his penalty which was converted brilliantly. Nobody will be looking forward to this break more than the Rangers captain who needs some rest and recuperation to get back to the force that has been so significant in Scottish football for several years. 5

Borna Barisic: Found dangerous positions consistently down the left flank. His crossing was decent but St Mirren were set up to defend balls into the box and able to defend well. the Croat's brilliant delivery should be a major weapon in Rangers' attacking arsenal but it's been reduced to a sole avenue of threat and easy to predict. Subbed for Ure late on as the team chased a winner. 5

Leon King: Tested by the physicality of Jonah Ayunga and struggled. The youngster was at fault over Ayunga's goal when he dallied and looked to take a touch in the box, trying to control the rebound to his shot. Was taken off injured after 50 minutes after a worrying-looking head knock picked up in a duel with Curtis Main. 4

James Sands: Another who found Ayunga a difficult customer to deal with. Struggled to progress the ball out from the back quickly enough. The American becoming the most reliably available centre-half on the club's books is a major part of the problem.  4

John Lundstram: Sloppy in possession on multiple occasions, he really is better further forward as an 8 than sitting as a 6. It's hard to escape the feeling the Scouser's incredible form last season, dominating Europa League midfield's was something of an emotion fuelled purple patch. Moved back to the defence after King's substitution where he was solid enough.  4

Glen Kamara: The Fin was such an important player under Steven Gerrard, but looks a spare part in a midfield that doesn't really play to his strengths. Was played in for a chance brilliantly by Kent but a failure to shoot proved problematic. The reluctance of Rangers to finalise a transfer in the summer after a solid offer from Ligue 1 remains baffling. Understandably substituted at half-time. 3

Malik Tillman: Had a bright start putting the ball through the legs of a St Mirren defender before firing just wide. Faded as the game went on as has sometimes been the case with the mercurial youngster. For all his faults, he still looks like one capable of a genuine creative spark. 5

Ryan Kent: Looked sharp and dangerous at times, setting up an excellent early chance for Kamara with lightning-quick feet. Won the penalty with a superb jinking run. The winger was booked for diving but the decision was correctly reversed by VAR. A player who isn't being helped by his manager by being tied down to the touchlines as a chalk on the boots winger. He's capable of more. 6

Scott Wright: Had a big early miss from barely 5 yards out when he nodded Barisic's deep cross straight at Trevor Carson. The winger did well to head the ball downwards but the keeper saved well. He was bright throughout the first half, looking to carry the ball whenever possible and getting into dangerous situations. Didn't offer much in the second. 5

Alfredo Morelos: Should have scored in the early knockings when picked out by Scott Wright but mishit his shot. Another shaky, miserable performance from the Colombian who consistently gave the ball away and looks a shadow of his former self. Where is the bullying presence of old - the rampaging Buffalo that tormented the likes of Porto and Feyenoord? Rangers should remove their contract offer from the table while this is the standard of performance being offered up because he simply hasn't earned the maintenance of his status as a top earner.  3

Substitutes

Scott Arfield: Added energy and drive to a midfield that was sadly lacking it in the first half. 5

Ryan Jack: A good run out for the Scotland international whose fitness and form is key to form in the remainder of the season. With Jack, you always get composure and graft at the very least. 4

Robbie Ure: The striker came on with six minutes of injury time remaining. 2
