Allan McGregor: Called into action to deny a Johnston effort midway through the first half and had no chance with Jota’s header from close range after hesitation in the Rangers defence. Had to tip away a Kyogo strike in the second half but that aside he had very little to do. 6
James Tavernier: Good covering following a Raskin mistake to deny Maeda in the first half and dealt with the Japanese forward well. He was heavily involved as Rangers pushed for a leveller. Rattled the inside of the post with a well hit shot from the edge of the area on 64 minutes with Sakala missing an opening goal on the rebound. Headed over from a Barisic delivery with Rangers knocking on the door. 7
Connor Goldson: A welcome return to the backline and defended resolutely. Timely header over the bar following a teasing Celtic free kick and dealt with pretty much every ball that came his way. 7
Ben Davies: It was a big call by the manager to select Davies over John Souttar but he delivered a solid performance. Had Kyogo in his back pocket for much of the game. 7
Borna Barisic: Played a major role to play in Celtic’s opener as he was caught on his heels after failing to play to the whistle which allowed Maeda to pick up a loose ball before crossing for Jota to score. Cautioned for a mistimed tackle on O’Riley. Caught late by Johnston but carried on after receiving treatment. Replaced by Ridvan. 5
John Lundstram: The Scouser has been roundly criticised for his performances this season but he was back to vintage Lundstram. Was on it from the off, a solid sliding challenge on Kyogo early on left the Japanese crumpled in a heap and he made a number of vital interceptions as well as winning the vast majority of duels. A rare marauding run forward just before the break enthused the Rangers crowd. Curled a shot over the bar on the hour mark. 7
Nico Raskin: Saw a shot deflected wide in the opening seconds following a bright Rangers start. Battled well but was guilty of a few misplaced passes. A failure to play to the whistle between him and Barisic resulted in Celtic’s opener. The Belgian was more involved in an attacking sense in the second half as Rangers hunted for an equaliser before being replaced by Matondo. 6
Todd Cantwell: Looked in the mood from the start and ran his socks off. Won a tussle early on and threw himself into challenges. Caught late by Johnston which required treatment but he soldiered on. Was involved in much of Rangers play going forward, popping up all over the place. Orchestrated the crowd on occasion to which they responded. Didn't deserve to be on the losing side. 8
Malik Tillman: A frustrating afternoon for the 20-year-old. He hobbled off 10 minutes before the break after hurting himself following a lunge on Taylor. He initially tried to carry on after receiving treatment before breaking down shortly after. Had dispossessed McGregor a couple of times prior to his injury but never offered much in an attacking sense. 4
Ryan Kent: Another Old Firm horror show and no doubt his last in Rangers colours. Guilty of the usual poor decision-making and often giving up possession cheaply. Prior to Celtic’s opening goal, he almost provided Maeda with a run-in on goal only for McGregor to burst out and clear the ball. Unsurprisingly hooked at the break. 2
Alfredo Morelos: A poor showing from the Colombian. The good work he did do was in his own penalty area when he helped his team defend from Celtic corners. Offered little in an attacking sense. His touch was often cumbersome and failed to hold the ball up. 4
Substitutes
Scott Arfield: Replaced the injured Tillman. A crunching challenge on McGregor set the tone for the second half as Rangers dominated. Stung the gloves of Hart with a fizzing strike as Rangers chased an equaliser and fired over late on. 6
Fashion Sakala: Replaced Kent at half time but had a mare. Connected with a Tavernier cross but his header was easily saved by Hart before missing an open goal when Tavernier’s shot cannoned off the upright as the Zambian fired into the side netting with the goal gaping. Moments later he cut inside before firing a shot that was so wide it went out for a throw-in. 3
Ridvan Yilmaz: Replaced Barisic and delivered a few decent crosses into the box before fizzing a shot over the bar late on. 3
Rabbi Matondo: Replaced Raskin and forced Hart into action almost immediately. Set up Arfield for a shot at goal but he fired over. 3
Ianis Hagi: Replaced Morelos but couldn't affect the game. 2
