ALLY MCCOIST admitted motormouth pundit Jason Cundy was right in his scathing "light-years behind" assessment of both Celtic and wider Scottish football in Europe.
The talkSPORT pundit launched an astonishing rant on Celtic after the 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk last night as he branded the club "fourth tier" in the Champions League.
Cundy was unrelenting in his criticism of Celtic and Scottish football as a whole as he insisted the standard is "miles off" what is needed to compete in elite European competition.
In the brutal verdict on Celtic and Scottish football, Cundy began: "Has anyone seen Postecoglou?! Has anyone seen Scottish football?! Bang average! My word.
"It's not even Halloween and you lot are out!"
He continued: "I'm thinking do you know what, there's no reason why these Scottish sides can't do something.
"Then all of a sudden you realise, actually, they are miles off it. They're not even close."
Jamie O'Hara had then suggested Celtic were unlucky, but Cundy was persistent in his slagging as he added: "Unlucky what? To win a corner? They are fourth tier."
He went on: "What more evidence do you need, seriously, what more evidence do you need?
"And you're right, money makes a difference but the reality is that Scottish football is light-years behind."
Now, McCoist has responded to Cundy's on-air rant - and despite desperately wanting to disagree - admitted "he's right".
The Rangers legend accepted Scottish football is "miles behind" on the Champions League stage as he also cited Hearts and Motherwell in his verdict on a dire performance in Europe this season for Scottish clubs.
But McCoist did call out Cundy for being "slightly harsh" in his scathing comments.
The Ibrox icon explained: "He's right, isn't he? The annoying thing is he's right. Miles behind top level European football. Of course he's right.
"The Scottish clubs in European competition this year have been a big disappointment. I don't think there's any doubt about that.
"After last season where Rangers were fantastic in getting to a Europa League final. This season, I've got to be honest, Rangers did well getting to the Champions League group stages with a good result over in Holland.
"But, and I include Hearts and Motherwell, the results have been really poor. There are a number of reasons for it, there's absolutely no chance the Scottish clubs can compete on a consistent basis against the finances of the top teams in European football.
"But Rangers and Celtic can't have it both ways because they've got more money than the rest of the teams in Scotland, so there's got to be a balance.
"But I've been really disappointed in the level of result of Scottish teams in Europe. So I've got to agree with Jason. I think he's slightly harsh in the way he puts it over."
