Ridvan Yilmaz insists that he has no plans to leave Rangers anytime soon as the defender reflected on his first season in Scottish football.

The left-back, who moved to Ibrox from Besiktas last summer in a deal worth up to £5million, endured a stop-start campaign that was disrupted by injury, making a total of 15 appearances across all competitions.

The 22-year-old Turk has been speaking to media in his homeland and when asked by TRT Sport about reports in Turkiye that claimed he could return the country, Yilmaz responded: “At the moment, I don't have any plans to return to Turkiye.”

Yilmaz was then asked about the main differences playing under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the manager who brought him to Rangers, and Michael Beale, who currently occupies the Ibrox hot-seat.

“We were more like friends with him [Van Bronckhorst],” Yilmaz explained. “He used to joke with us.

“Michael Beale, who is currently the coach of the team, is a bit more serious.”

Yilmaz also admitted that he was not quite ready for the physical demands of playing in Scotland when he first signed for Rangers and admits that the physicality initially caught him a little off-guard.

“I was not physically ready when I first went to Scotland,” he said.

“They said that my physique could improve when I gained a little weight. They gave me a programme and I followed it.

“The physical quality is higher in Scotland. When we look at work physically, they are much stronger than us. Both training and matches are very tough. Strength in Scotland is very different level.”
