Zak Lovelace was stretchered off at the SMiSA Stadium this afternoon after his first league start for Rangers.

The 17-year-old was handed a place in Rangers' starting XI by Steven Davis for the game against St Mirren in Paisley this lunchtime.

The talented attacker played on the right wing and made the desired impact. He was dynamic, always looking to get forward and wasn't afraid to take on his man. The teenager certainly didn't look out of place playing in the Premiership. 

The former Millwall academy player turned Buddies defender Scott Tanser inside and out in the lead-up to the penalty award for a Ryan Strain handball, which also resulted in a red card for the Australian.

However, Lovelace had to be withdrawn from proceedings after just 40 minutes after picking up what looked to be a nasty-looking hamstring injury. 

As he knocked the ball past Alex Gogic and attempted to skip past the Cypriot defender, he immediately pulled up. Initially, it appeared that he was looking for a free kick, but replays instantly cleared up that Lovelace actually clutched the back of his left leg and that was the reason for going to the ground.

After hobbling off to the sidelines, the Rangers medics compressed his upper leg by wrapping it in tape. After a small delay, he was eventually wheeled off on a medical bed as Kenny Miller suggested the player could be headed straight to the hospital. 

However, at the end of the game, Lovelace was pictured standing near the tunnel being embraced by Davis and Alex Rae.

Lovelace was replaced by a fellow B team product in the form of Ross McCausland. Davis will likely provide an update on Lovelace after today's match.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans have made their feelings known on the current situation at the club.

On and off the field the Ibrox side are in somewhat of a crisis mode as they search for a permanent replacement for Michael Beale in the dugout. 

Last weekend's 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen was enough to seal the fate of Beale, who was sacked after only 10 months in the job. 

Davis, Alex Rae, Stevie Smith, Brian Gilmour and Colin Stewart were appointed as the interim team to take the side in the meantime while James Bisgrove & Co. hunt for a successor in the manager's hot seat.
