Pellegrini insists Betis won't underestimate Rangers in Euro showdown

Rangers return to Seville 18 months after their defeat in the final of this competition knowing it is likely that only a win will do if they are to progress to the knockout round this term.

Betis were beaten at Ibrox earlier in the campaign and Pellegrini knows what to expect from the visitors in the final group stage fixture.

Pellegrini said: “It is an even group, Rangers normally plays in the Champions League, Sparta is a leader in their country.

“Being first and having to decide at home is an important responsibility for us, we want to carry it out. All games are important, like the ones that brought us to this game.

“I think we played a good game in Glasgow, we were dominant, with clear chances, they scored against us in a corner and took the three points. Now they have changed their way.

“Technically, they don't play in the same way but we know that we are facing a team accustomed to international competition and that will force us to play a good game.

“I expect a team that goes out looking for games, a draw is of no use to them because they could be outside, they have power up front and we have to be focused, we will go out and look for the game."

Rangers do not have their injury issues to seek ahead of the Betis clash as Clement comes to terms with the losses of Tom Lawrence and Danilo in recent days.

But Pellegrini has selection headaches of his own to solve as Betis look to clinch top spot in Group C.

Pellegrini said: “Luiz Henrique did not train [on Tuesday] due to discomfort, but he will be on the list. We have the absences of Bravo, Bartra, Fekir and Guido and those not registered.

“William and Rodri trained quite normally, and we did not want to risk William for the Europa League. He is fit, and he will feel the inactive time, but physically he has no problem and in terms of football he has not forgotten to play.”
