Steven Gerrard has signed a two-year extension with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq.

The former Rangers boss moved to the Middle East in the summer on what was initially a deal that kept him under contract until 2025.

Gerrard's extension will now take him up to 2027 and comes off the back of a poor run of form that has seen his side fail to win a game since the end of October.

The former Rangers boss also suffered a blow when star-man Jordan Henderson agreed to cancel his contract ahead of proposed move to Ajax.

He had previously left the Light Blues for Aston Villa in the Premier League, but things did not go to plan and he was subsequently sacked after just eleven months.

And the bookies had recently slashed the odds on the Liverpool legend being replaced by Jose Mourinho was removed from his post at Roma.

But it appears that Al-Ettifaq chief's have backed Gerrard to turn things around.

Meanwhile, Rabbi Matondo has revealed extra finishing sessions over the winter break that he hopes will help to fire him to more goals for Rangers.

The winger bagged a strike against FC Copenhagen in midweek in a friendly clash and he is now targeting more goals this season to help Philippe Clement's side both domestically and in Europe.

Matondo has been in and out of the Rangers team under Clement with injuries not helping his chances, but now that he is fit and firing, he hopes to remain as a regular starter.

He told Rangers TV: "It's always nice to score. The manager always says there is no friendly games so it's always nice to score in any game. It felt nice and hopefully many more."

Asked if he has been working on his finishing, he added: "Yeah, 100 per cent. Even in the off-break we had, I had a few sessions outside of Rangers.

"Then coming back in the manager telling me 'this is something you need to work on, keep working on it'. It's obviously paid off for today's game and I'll keep working on it and hopefully many more goals.

"It's been difficult to get back up to speed (after injury) but I feel like I'm in a good way right now and long may it continue and hopefully many more improvements and goals and assists and helping the team.

"We are still in all competitions so we are going to fight for everyone and give it our all. With the squad we have and many good players, it will be good for us. I am sure we will give our all for all the games to come."
