Rangers supporters have been warned to expect "extremely aggressive searches" ahead of tonight's Europa League last 16 showdown with Benfica.
The Light Blues face the Portuguese giants in Lisbon looking to bounce back from Saturday's 2-1 home league defeat against Motherwell. And around 3250 keen punters have made the trip over from Scotland to watch the clash.
However, Rangers have reportedly been told there are “serious concerns” from governing body, UEFA, over fans gaining entry to the iconic Estadio da Luz venue this evening and to expect rigorous security.
UEFA have taken the very unusual measure of appointing two security delegates for the event which highlights how important they are taking attendees safety. French outfit Toulouse visited in the previous round with many of their supporters also claiming to be the subject of "heavy handedness".
The latest information shared by Rangers fan blog Four Lads Had A Dream, who have representatives over in Portugal states: “Club are working with UEFA and FSE as there have been serious concerns raised with entry to the stadium previously with some extremely aggressive searches. UEFA have appointed two security delegates for this which is very uncommon so shows how serious it’s being taken.”
