Michael Stewart has slammed the officiating during Rangers' 3-3 draw with Celtic.

Glasgow's big two took part in a pulsating stalemate at Ibrox this afternoon with the goals flowing in the second half.

Celtic had a 2-0 lead at half time after goals from Daizen Maeda and Matt O'Riley in the first. 

However, James Tavernier and Abdallah Sima scored, as it looked like Philippe Clement's team had secured a 2-2 draw. 

Adam Idah had other ideas though, as he struck low beyond Jack Butland a matter of seconds later, to send the Celtic dugout into wild celebrations, with victory just minutes away.

But Rabbi Matondo scored with a beautiful curling effort deep into stoppage time, as the game finished 3-3.

The game passed without any real incident in the first half, however, John Beaton and VAR came under scrutiny in the second. 

The on-field referee initially booked Fabio Silva for a dive inside Celtic's box when VAR interevned to review the tackle by Alistair Johnston, which was eventually overturned and Rangers were awarded a penalty.

Rangers, moments later, then had a goal disallowed from Cyriel Dessers after Tomoki Iwata was fouled in the build-up.

Former Hearts and Hibernian midfielder Michael Stewart was blessed than enamoured with what he saw from Beaton and the rest of his officials on the day, including Nick Walsh on VAR duty.

And he's taken to social media to heavily criticise their involvement in the powderkeg clash, but stopped short of pinpointing certain instances.

He wrote on X: "The officiating is embarrassing our game. They’ve impacted the result in the biggest game of the season. Disgraceful."

Rangers now have a game-in-hand to play over Celtic when they travel to Dundee on Wednesday night.

Today's result means the Premiership table is 'as you were' at the summit, with Brendan Rodgers' side holding a slender one-point advantage.

So, if Rangers can claim victory in the City of Discovery, they will go two points ahead of their arch-rivals heading into the post-split fixtures.
