Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie is “frightened” that Rangers will stun his old team and snatch the points in tomorrow's Old Firm clash at Parkhead.

The champions are strong favourites to win the first Glasgow derby of the new season, a result which would open up a five-point lead over their biggest rivals after just four games.

But Macca, who won a league and cup double with Celtic in the club’s 1988 centenary season, fears that over-confidence could play a part and refuses to rule out a shock away win.

Speaking to betideas.com, a nervous McAvennie said: “I hate saying this but I’m frightened because I feel so comfortable that it will be a Celtic win. And that can be a bad thing.

“With these games I hate being so confident – I just hope the defence can do their job and look after them and stay tight.  Middle to front I’ve not got a problem.
