Allan McGregor: He was watching on with the rest of the Rangers support for the majority. Didn’t have to make a save throughout. A couple of passes aside he was uninvolved. 6
James Tavernier: Played infield to allow Scott Wright ownership of the right flank and looked dangerous doing so. Making cutting underlaps and attacking the box while also threatening with more than one long-range shot. While providing a solid defensive structure for his team to build from. 8
Connor Goldson: Played the first-half thirty yards from the St Mirren goal. Maintaining pressure on the opposition and spreading play to the right. Made one ill-timed challenge that earned a yellow card. That aside his only real involvement was to start and support moves. 7
Calvin Bassey: Like Goldson played remarkably high, responsible for circulating possession and maintaining the home side’s momentum. Stepped into the midfield to block off attacks when needed. Composed on the ball and took his opportunities to burst forward. 7
Borna Barisic: His reintroduction into the backline offered a far greater balance in the build-up. Still made his mark going forward, however, curling in a perfect ball for Morelos to score his side’s second. Sent a stinging effort narrowly over after the break. Continues to look revitalised in his redefined role under the new manager. 7
Glen Kamara: The anchor-man had little defensive responsibility. With Hagi and Aribo ahead of him, the Finnish midfielder moved possession quickly and provided for his more forward-thinking teammates. Got beyond if the chance arose, notably almost earning a penalty at one point. Didn’t give a pass away all afternoon one moment aside and allowed his team to play through the pitch. 7
Joe Aribo: Cushioned a header in the lead up to his side’s second, tested Alnwick on another couple of occasions. Wasn’t the main attacking threat such was the domination enjoyed by his side but still could easily have got on the scoresheet. And looked ever-dangerous when one-v-one. 7
Ianis Hagi: Moved centrally after improving in that position against Dundee United and did a lot of good things off the ball. Always moving in the centre and opening up passing lanes. As he struggled to grow into the game he grew frustrated and attempted to many risky passes. Was substituted for Arfield after the hour. 6
Scott Wright: Kept his place and kept the width with a high and wide approach. Gave Tanser a really difficult time by going around the left-back constantly. Scored the opener at the back post from a corner and took his opportunity from the start well. Maintained his tempo throughout and should have seen an excellent cutback turned in by Morelos. Arguably his best starting performance in a Rangers jersey. 8
Ryan Kent: Always seemed to attract two markers which in turn opened up space on the opposite side of the pitch. Provided a superb cross for Morelos which almost added a third in the opening 45, had another couple of moments that could have returned better rewards. Didn’t have the space Wright did but always looked dangerous on the ball. 7
Alfredo Morelos: Played with a smile on his face and could conceivably have had a first-half hat-trick. Took his first emphatically and nearly scored a mirror image before the break. Linked play when he needed to, but crucially was always in the box. Should have done better when Wright cut the ball back to him after the break. 8
Substitutes
Scott Arfield: Curled one shot wide and arrived in the box after coming off the bench. 6
Fashion Sakala: Played from the left but couldn't get into the game. 5
